Around The Bend Woodworks ~ News ~

OK!
I have some more news!
As some of y'all know.... I have been selling a few raw slabs, here lately. Someone asked me if I could get them a
slab & I happened to have a spare so I sold it for very little mark up. The next time I went to the mill I ordered a
extra hickory log & listed a few slabs. To my surprise they did quite well.
It was not that easy to find a mill to custom cut my slabs. I spent about 6 months & most of my spare time & gas
trying to find the right mill. There are literally hundreds, maybe thousands of sawmills in Western PA. I started
circling out from my shop hitting every mill I could find.

They don't have any Walnut or Chestnut But they have tons of Cherry, Oak, Maple, Hickory, Beech & most of
the hard & softwoods that are local to Western PA.
So thats the news. I told my Wife... we just might make it through the winter! & the reason will be: Slabs!
I plan on making a small but varied quality selection of hardwood slabs available to the general public as well as
wholesale prices to repeat buyers.
You can see what I have in my eBay store or email me to find out what else I have, on hand or upcoming.
Thanks, Ted.
Most are Amish & the first 7 I went to they wouldn't even talk to
me about custom cutting. These guys are all business! Well I
had 3 Beech logs that my cousin in law hooked me up with & I
was determined to get them cut into slabs. I finally after about 3
more cold shoulders found an Amish family sawmill, about 20

the slabs were beautiful. So they had a couple hundred logs, of
all kinds & I wanted to purchase one & have them custom cut it.
They said OK, but they wanted to run it through the "barker"...

the mud & it was hard on the saw blade to cut through the mud. &
I think he realized he didn't want to 'waste' his time custom
cutting 3 logs at a whack. So there I was without a mill,,, again.
Well to make a long story a little less long, After 17 more tries
I think I have found a mill I can work with.
